Susquehanna River Kayak Fishing Report (9/22/13)

By John “Toast” Oast of

This morning I hit the North Branch of the Susquehanna River with my bud John Blair. It was windy, and clouds were moving in and out. Luckily, the river didn’t really rise from last night’s rainfall.

I ended the day with a total of 15 smallmouth bass. About half were caught on spinnerbaits and half on 3.5″ Powerteam Craw D’oeuvres in Susky Slayer color. Most of the bass were stacked up just below elevation changes and gravel bars.

The PowerTeam Craw D’oeuvre in action!

While most of the bass were in the same pattern, I did catch a few jigging the craw in deeper water, between the shoreline and current lines. One spit up a crayfish claw, so I knew I was on a good pattern with the Powerteam soft plastic craw. One of those from the deeper pools was a nice PA citation smallie.

Citation smallie, caught vertical jigging.

A great day on the Susquehanna River!

A huge thanks to John Blair for helping with pics!
